I have picked 10 Critically Acclaimed Photographers that are related to either crime or evidence photography.
David Goldbatt-Ex Offenders
these photographs and the stories of the people within them. Most were trying, often in desperately difficult circumstances, to go straight. Hence why he called them ex-offenders.he paid each of these subjects about 80 Euros and they have signed a release giving him permission to publish and exhibit the photographs and their life stories. he told each subject that the exhibition might, at some later stage in life, damage them, and I proceed only if they fully understand what they are doing and agree to doing it.he wouldn't take any money for these images he wanted all proceeds to be given to organisations dealing with the education and rehabilitation of prisoners. I think he felt he owed them a lot more then 80 euros because this work has there faces and their stories with it forever and as they help him i wants to hep them.
John Weller -The Last Ocean
John Weller might be an off the wall choice for me to put in for evidence photographer but evidence photographer is a wide subject and this body of work the last ocean showed the world what is happening to world due to global warming. Therefore John's evidence of this event people wouldn't know what is going on.The Last Ocean, an outreach project directed specifically at the Ross Sea, with Antarctic Since then he has worked full time on the project as fundraiser, organizer, designer, writer, photographer and film maker. His efforts have catalyse an international movement to protect the Ross Sea.
Vivian Maiers - Self Portraits
Self-Portraits reveals the fullest and most intimate portrait of the artist to date with approximately 60 never-before-seen black-and-white and four-color self-portraits. these image show the reclusive and private as Vivian Maier was, her self portraits photographs reveal a telling story. At first these images don't look staged at all they look like she is test shooting or just capturing what she is looking at but these images were thoughtfully posed, and often innovative so they didn't look staged.these images are the only evidence of Vivian Maier not focus on the streets but on her self which for such a recluse was interesting and surprising to see.
Peter Lindbergh-The Documentary and The Dream
Peter Lindbergh tells a story of an encounter, one of millions that happen in in Times Square every day. A story full of contrasts and counterpoints, and at large an encounter. This body of works at first looks like a lot of documentary images but on closer inspection the images reminds me of a police surveillance when the police are looking for some one they took lots of pictures of a suspect and it reminds me of that as they look very close up images for typical documentary images which normally a from a far.
Arthur Tress- Classic Images
These images at first look like crime scenes that what drew me to them as i am researching crime and evidence for our exhibition but after researching further i found this images are nightmares. These classic images are of what children in the late 60s and early 70s to describe their fantasies and nightmares. Then Tress brought them to life in these particularly unnerving staged images.Over four decades later, Tress’ black and white images are hauntingly affective.
Zoriah Miller-Documenting a life in conflict
Zoriah Miller is a Photojournalist documenting in war zone what is happening i these places. she focuses on variety from people to landscapes. These landscapes in Gaza caught my attention as usually in the news you here about the people who are fighting for there lives you don't often hear or see what is happening to the landscape around the people. This is probably not seen as front page worthy where as child who is injured would be on the front page straight away as it has more impact. I still think these images make impact the lack of anything just shows that they have demolished destroyed any evidence that there was a town or city.
Joe Rosenthal-THE IWO JIMA
On February 23, 1945, Rosenthal, an photographer covering the battle for Iwo Jima, had heard Marines were headed up the mountain. He decided to make the climb and see what was going on.For miles around, the sight of Old Glory atop the mountain set off whistles, gunfire and celebrations. The noise stirred up a fire fight with Japanese soldiers near the summit. This iconic evidences that America was in Japan the flag flying on a mountain over Japan shows a superiority to the Americans over the Japanese as they are higher than the Japanese.
Simon Roberts-We English
Roberts travelled throughout England in a motor home between August 2007 and September 2008, for this body of work he captured photographs of the English at leisure. Photographing ordinary people engaged in a variety of pastimes. These images show what really happens when people have leisure time in England nothing enhanced or photo shopped to make the places better then what they seem it is real England shown and evidenced by Roberts.
Tim Rudman-Iceland
Rudman’s work reveals a both the beauty and the uncompromising harshness of this volcanic landscape. The snow creates a softness to the first image makes the view feel calm and even make them want to go there. But in the same body of work you have the next two images that show that the snow ans softness doesn't last ever that volcanic landscape will show and makes me have different opinion on the place. evidencing both sides gives you a rounder picture if what Iceland is really like
Stephen Wilkes- Burned Objects
The burned object series is really interesting series as the series was produced after the BP oil spill in the Gulf to get back at BP by burning derivatives of petroleum so anything plastic to show them that if you destroy the wildlife we destroy your products. The burned objects are remnants of fire aftermaths from all over the country and also shows how is easy to burn there own derivatives. Also Wilkes evidences the event for future reference so it wont be forgotten.
