Frame Building
As part of this Project we have to make our own frames so we know how to do it if we want our final images framed and for future reference
Method:
- Use a ban saw to cut a stick of wood of your choice in half
- Ask Tim and Craig the teachers to use the plainer to sand down our wood.
- Then Ask Tim or Craig again to make the a grove in the wood for the image to sit on.
- To start making the frame use a ban saw
- Then mark out the edge with a set square
- Using a mitre cut to create the edges of the frame so they fit together.
- repeat four times until all the pieces loosely fit together.
- Using the laser cutter we created a Perspex frontage and a wooden back for our Picture to go in
- then we glued the frame together with wood glue
- Using string and wooden block to keep the frame together whilst drying
- To finish we used bees wax to give the wood a nice finish.
Here is the finished product.
Printing and Mounting
With John we learned how to print and mount images so we can do it for real with own images. the first thing is to set up the images to specific dimensions so that it prints correctly to A2 size. After doing so you have to check whether the printer is matte or lute and set this correctly on the print set-up. Send to print and wait till the image has printed. To mount you have to mount a material of your choice I chose foam board. Using a off cut as a leader board to make sure the sticky back plastic stick right let run through the machine first with foam board following. cut the leader board away from your foam board and then take a bit of the sticky back plastic of to stick your image down then use the machine to get the image pefectly on the board and then peel the excess sticky back off so the image sticks. then using a craft knife cut out your images to the right size you want.
